Faith Formation Commission
This commission is composed of a group of
parishioners who study recent church documents
and teachings to do with Faith Formation for
people of all ages. They are currently
in formation and their goal is to provide
direction and evaluation for the total parish
formational efforts. This involves all
types of ministries and programs dealing with
spiritual growth, sacramental preparation,
catechist certification and all types of adult
formation. There may be separate or
temporary sub-committees occasionally working
on specific tasks for the Commission. For
more information about Faith Formation in
our parish, or any of the programs listed
below, please contact Mrs.
Susan Hack, Pastoral Associate for Faith
Formation at 513.522.3680 ext. 105. |

Rite
of Christian Initiation (RCIA/RCIC)
The process in which adults (RCIA) and children
(RCIC) can explore the Catholic faith, and
prepare to join the Church through the Sacraments
of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
In this process, beliefs, practices and doctrines
of the Roman Catholic church are examined.

First
Communion
We help prepare our children (typically in
the second grade) in a family approach with
parents and child journeying together through
a parent workshop, catechesis in PSR and SBCS,
and a Jesus Day Retreat. The parish
at large joins you with prayer. |
|
First
Reconciliation
Reconciliation is celebrated normally prior
to First Communion in the 2nd grade.
Formation includes parent meetings, retreat
day and catechesis in PSR and SBCS.
Children discover the importance of forgiveness,
love of neighbor and the need for loving choices. |
|
Confirmation
Children 12 years and older seeking full membership
in the Roman Catholic church begin preparation
in the fall. Children must have been
baptized and have received First Communion.
Preparation includes christian service, retreat
and further catechesis. |

Children's
Liturgy of
the Word
St. Bartholomew Parish celebrates a Children’s
Liturgy of the Word during the 11:15 Mass
on most Sundays during the school year.
This program is for children ages 4 through
2nd grade who have not yet received First
Communion. The children are dismissed
during the Liturgy of the Word so that they
may hear the Word proclaimed in a simplified
manner and share the meaning of the readings
on their level. Children are brought
back to church during the Preparation of
the Gifts and Altar and participate with
their parents for the rest of Mass.
There are very good resources that help
Catechists know what to do and there are
Assistants who also accompany the children.
Both Catechists and Assistants are scheduled
to minister about every four weeks.

Homeschooling for Religion
The Church teaches that parents are the first
and primary teachers of the faith to their children.
There are always a few families who prefer to
teach their children about the faith in their
own home. These families work with the
Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation.
Children preparing for the reception of sacraments
must participate in the parish formation portions,
such as formation sessions, retreats, liturgies,
service projects, etc. |
